Video Evidence that Activision planned to charge subscription fees for Call of Duty?

I was trying to join a friend's session on MW2 the other day and had this screen pop up. It clearly says at the top of this menu: "Modern Warfare 2 Membersh", in which we can confidently assume that the last word is "Memberships". If you'll notice at the bottom is an option to "Add Microsoft Points", clearly indicating that this was intended to be a menu for purchasing different levels of Membership, presumably memberships would have been offered in a variety of durations.

I don't want to see the day that we start having to pay a monthly fee for online play, as we already pay for our internet connections and XBL subscriptions. The CoD franchise has brought XBoX so much revenue that it would seem they wouldn't want this either, but apparently they went as far as to make a menu for it.

I could be totally off base with this theory on what purpose this menu was intended to serve, but it seems a likely path for Activision to take.

If that happens you would never see me play another COD game ever. I pay enough for gold and the game itself.

I absolutely refuse to pay a subscription fee for their sub par multiplayer. No, I take that back; if they can guarantee that there would be no modding/hacking or glitching in it, then I would gladly pay the fee. I stopped playing MW2 b/c of the total ridiculous modding that constantly goes on in that game. It became a complete waste of time to play it.

I think your conclusion is probably right on. I'll also say this.. If Activision thinks i'm paying money to play multiplayer when i've already purchased the game and payed for live, they need to get a clue. It's not happening. I let the fact that they release a new game every year to milk the franchise slide. I ignored the fact that their campaign modes are mostly old and tired. Enough is enough.

LoL, I couldn't let that one go! You pay for love? Just kidding! You're right though, I don't know how they are going to justify charging us an additional fee unless they plan on doing a lot more to improve the online experience.

Meh, I would care if I still played CoD but I got rid of everything CoD back in February already. Sorry but memberships or not nothing CoD is worth paying for with all the hacks and modding shit going on in that (now) garbage game. Excuse my language but even the word shit doesn't compare to CoD right now on the same level at all.

LOL Realized it right after I posted it. I don't think i've ever paid for love, then again my girlfriend does disappear with my wallet in Walmart on grocery shopping days.

As far as this nonsense. If what they are trying to do is create a tiered experience like what Bungie charges players a month for more storage and HD video capture, thats fine, mainly because I don't need it in order to enjoy the core experiences of the game. What Activision is trying to do is tantamount to selling you a refrigerator then pad locking the freezer praying you cough up a service fee.

Seems like a system similar to the new EA Sports Pass - where you get a code in the new copy to play online but used and rentals pay $10 more. Might be something they include in the newer Call of Duty games. Wouldn't surprise me.

Yeah EA is nuts if they think they are pulling that one either. I just won't buy their sports games. Problem solved.
