Video Evidence that Activision planned to charge subscription fees for Call of Duty?

I was trying to join a friend's session on MW2 the other day and had this screen pop up. It clearly says at the top of this menu: "Modern Warfare 2 Membersh", in which we can confidently assume that the last word is "Memberships". If you'll notice at the bottom is an option to "Add Microsoft Points", clearly indicating that this was intended to be a menu for purchasing different levels of Membership, presumably memberships would have been offered in a variety of durations.

I don't want to see the day that we start having to pay a monthly fee for online play, as we already pay for our internet connections and XBL subscriptions. The CoD franchise has brought XBoX so much revenue that it would seem they wouldn't want this either, but apparently they went as far as to make a menu for it.

I could be totally off base with this theory on what purpose this menu was intended to serve, but it seems a likely path for Activision to take.

I don't doubt they really want to go through with this, but it's not gonna work. I think Activision keeps trying to see how much they can get away with before people finally start saying no.

Already burned out on these games anyway. The very last thing I want is more Call of Duty.

Had some people on other boards doubting the authenticity of my picture. I uploaded a video if anyone is interested. :)

MW2/Activision would be screwed in the butt if they do that

If it was a one time use code for Multiplayer Access with every new copy, then I really wouldn't mind... but then, why call it a "Membership?"

Yeah it does seem along the same lines as what was done with the recent UFC game. I reckon it's just another step towards devalueing pre-owned games. I am a freqent game trader, it's the only way I can keep up with releases on my budget and have noticed the drop in trade-in value of any game that has content codes and spotted even a few PC games that have codes to lock them on the PC first installed on (making them untrade-in able):(

Well EA actually does something for that money. I personally don't pay anything for playing games, but my little brother plays FIFA, where you get the option to pay for updates of the players after how they have played in the real world. And this is updated every week, so I think it's fair.
However, Activision seems to think they can just charge people to play, and don't have to do anything for it. They have 'already' managed to put out two map packs, in witch they have at least managed to create 3/5ths of the maps - But still they have not fixed almost anything about the game witch has been broken since more or less day one!

Paying a fee is OK as long as someone actually puts in the work for it to be worth it, however it seems as though Activision thinks they can weezle their way out of it. That is just my impression, but it might be false.
I understand that Activision is a business, and it is there to please their stock holders.. But would it really be that good to scare away the majority of the customers?

    Man I hate Bobby Kotick

I think this whole idea is coming about to stop the used game market, or rather help Activision milk the used game buyers. I can see future COD games coming with a one time multiplayer code, then if you resell the game, that person would have to buy an online membership.

I think it all comes down to greed.
